Public education administrator Gonzalo Garza was born in New Braunfels, Texas in 1927. His parents were Mexican American migrant workers. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps (1944-1946, 1951), Garza went on to complete his M.S. in Education from St. Mary's University (1954) and his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin (1976).
